God Finishes What Islander Started
Robert Strange McNamara has finally gone to hell. More than 35 years after nearly being killed on a visit to the Island, the former defense secretary died anyway. To quote Clarence Darrow, "I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure."
The Island has historically been a quiet retreat for celebrities and moguls. Sure, we recognize the powerful people but we leave them alone fro the most part. Not this guy, not this time. Years after leaving office, while serving as president of the World Bank, McNamara came for a holiday on the Island. On his way here, while enjoying a drink on the boat, he was recognized by an angry hippie. The hippie lured McNamara outside by telling him that there was a call for him on the bridge, and then tried to throw him over. McNamara was reportedly clinging to the chain above the gunwale with the freak prying his fingertips loose when the crowd finally heard the screams and came to the rescue.
So close.
