Reward In Chilmark B&E

A robbery at a Chilmark home leaves one family minus jewelry, cash and personal effects. No sign of forced entry though. You know how the Island is, if anyone bothers to lock their house then the key can be found under a shingle, the one with all the scratches beneath it.

The punishment of criminals should be of use; when a man is hanged he is good for nothing” - Voltaire
Chilmark police tell VT that the theft took place Monday afternoon between 12 and 4pm. Janice and Robert Brown were away from their home for the afternoon and returned to find a 14-inch safe missing. The fireproof lockbox contained heirloom jewelry, personal effects and an undisclosed amount of cash. Chilmark police say that the Browns are very interested in having their personal items returned. A reward has been offered for anyone with information leading to the return of the safe with its contents intact.

Ah, VT gets it. Anyone with information on the theft must be the robber and therefore subject to arrest on the spot, plus everyone knows you don't have to pay the thief the reward money. Touché.
